Okay guys today we are going to take a look at discount blinds, or discounted blinds. Before we go any further must understand one thing:

Discount Blinds are not the same as ‘cheap blinds’.

‘Cheap Blinds’ by definition are blinds that are made to be cheap, which normally means mass production, cheap materials, cheap labour, ect.

Discount blinds on the other hand are still a high quality product, they are just discounted for one reason or another, for example during a sale or stock clearance.

What this means is if you are on a tight budget, which I understand a lot of people are during the ‘recession’ you can essentially get hold of the high quality blinds you are accustomed to at the same price as the low quality ‘cheap blinds’ you would usually avoid.

How you say? Simple, search for the discounts and sales!

It is important to understand that you are not the only one feeling the heat of the credit crunch, businesses are feeling it too and they are lowering prices and holding sales left, right and center!

This may sound cynical, but a lot of businesses are also going bust as well, and they have a lot of extra stock they quickly need to get rid of to recuperate at least some money. I’m willing to bet you can get a great discount on that stock!

I’m guessing you have a retail brand you know well, trust and buy from each time? It may be Hillarys, Web-Blinds, Blinds Supermarket or one I haven’t even heard of. But the key to finding the most discounted blinds is to not stick with one retailer but to compare the market, which is relatively easy with a simple Google search.

Another thing to look out for is promotions like ‘price beater’ or ‘price match’ where companies guarantee to beat the quote you’ve been given. This is always worth going for, you have nothing to lose after all!

One last thing to remember is that nearly all sites have discount codes, if you do a google search that looks something like “Web Blinds Discount Code” you may be surprised with what you find

Good luck finding those discounts!

If you have spent any time searching for blackout blinds it will have become apparent that the most popular and widely available type are roller blinds. In this article I aim to explore the reasons why blackout roller blinds are so popular.

Before we go any further it is important to understand that the phrase blackout roller blind actually means a roller blind using a blackout fabric. Not a blind specifically designed for blocking out light.

A common mis conception is that a blackout fabric must be a dark colour, as they are less likely to let light through. In reality blinds are slightly more sophisticated than that, and thanks to special fabric formulations you can get blackout blinds in any colour, even white.

In terms of price blackout roller blinds can be found for a pretty affordable price. Usually they will cost just slightly more than a standard roller blind. Unless you choose an intricate fabric, which you will pay a premium price for.

If you are looking for 100% light blackout then roller blinds are not for you. Blackout roller blinds work well at blocking most of the light out, which is often all that is required, but they will not block 100% of the light out. For more demanding situations like that you will need to look into heavy duty cassette blinds.

Chances are if you are looking at blackout roller blinds you already have a pretty good idea of where you want to use them, but just in case, here are some more ideas:

Conference Rooms – If you are running a powerpoint presentation the last thing you want is you guests not being able to see the screen because of the light reflecting offf of it.

Bedrooms – If you have to sleep during the day for some reason or another, maybe you work a night shift, you will appreciate having a blackout blind in your bedroom. We all know how bothersome it is to try and get to sleep with day light shining in your eyes.

Home Cinemas – Although this situation may require a 100% blackout, you may just about get away with a blackout roller blind.

In conclusion blackout roller blinds are great for rooms where you want to blackout most of the light. The reason they let light in is because the fabric is not secured at the sides or the bottom.

Before we go deep into this article is important to distinguish the two types of cheap blinds. In my mind there is a strong divide between ‘cheap blinds’ and what I like to call ‘discounted blinds’. Cheap blinds are blinds made purely with cost in mind, they use cheap materials and are mass produced, whereas discount blinds are the high quality blinds you can buy from reputable suppliers such as Hillary’s when they have sales on and so on.

Unfortunately in the blinds industry their isn’t really any definitive brand products you can rely on, such as Dyson in the vacuum cleaner industry. So it is vital that you choose your supplier wisely.

That being said lets look at the two types and what you can expect from each type.

Cheap Roller Blinds

Cheap roller blinds are the ones you see on the 3 for £99 fliers and so on, the companies selling them are often sole traders or ‘one man bands’. Some of these guys are great, but unfortunately they don’t have the facilities like the big companies do to stock vast amounts of products.

Size Restrictions

Unfortunately one of the draw backs of cheap roller blinds is the size restrictions, some will offer upto 100cm x 100cm and some may go as far as 150cm x 150cm.

Colour Restrictions

Chances are you will have a choice of colours, but it will be very limited, around 5 colours is usually the maximum. Some companies will only offer you the choice of white or cream as they are the most popular colours.

Fabric Type Restrictions

Blackout and Light reflective fabrics are completely out the question as they are an additional cost. The standard fabric is a dim-out fabric.

Discounted Roller Blinds

Surprisingly some discounted roller blinds offer very competitive prices against the ‘cheap’ blinds. Obviously there are still some restrictions, but they aren’t as tight as the bigger companies can offer higher quality products for less due to them receiving quantity discounts from component and fabric suppliers.

Size Restrictions

Bare in mind you have to fit these yourself, but on certain online retailers website you can purchase three roller blinds for £99 with sizes up to 200cm x 190cm which is fantastic as it would fit most windows.

Colour Restrictions

Using the above retailer as an example again they have have 8 colours available, some fabrics with patterns on included, which is amazing for such a low price.

Fabric Type Restrictions

Similar to the cheap blinds, even online fabrics with additional features such as blackout come at an additional cost, I presume this is because they are extremely popular and it would be foolish to put them in the lowest price band.

Conclusion

Nowadays it seems there is a bargain everywhere you turn, and there can be. Just make sure the blinds meet your requirements and you won’t be left wishing you shopped around some more. There is nothing worse than feeling like you got an inferior product.

Similar to Roman Blinds, roller blinds are manufactured using a single piece of fabric. Roller blinds are an extremely efficient way of getting the privacy you desire, protecting your furniture from sun light damage and complimenting the décor of your home.

Perfect for a bedroom windows and bathroom windows, roller blinds are extremely versatile and can be used to furnish any room, roller blinds are an affordable solution for furnishing any window.

Roller blinds are available from most good blinds retailers and come in many shapes, colours, sizes, fabrics and finishes to cater for your own specific needs. It is also possible to find some really cheap roller blinds if you look hard enough.

Blackout Roller Blinds

Blackout roller blinds are manufactured with special ‘black out fabric’ to create a very private atmosphere in your home, blackout roller blinds are perfect for rooms which require privacy such as bathrooms and bedrooms.

Photo Roller Blinds

Photos blinds are a very unique way to cover your window, with your photo printed on a synthetic fabric making your photo visible from both sides. Photo Blinds are a great way to commemorate special occasions such as: weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other special moments.

Patterned Roller Blinds

Tailored to suit your taste patterned roller blinds create a stylish finish in the room, patterned roller blinds are perfect for children’s bedrooms, kitchens and bathroom.

DIY Roller Blind Kits

DIY roller blinds kits are an easy way to save money on roller blinds, with a little DIY knowledge needed roller blind kits can be assembled easily to create a high end feel at a reduced cost.

Remote Control Roller Blinds

Because roller blinds don’t do much aside from raise and lower it is relatively easy to motorise the process. Remote control blinds are expensive but if your blind is out of reach they can be a godsend, they are also good for showing off to your friends.

All roller blinds share the ability to decorate a window whilst when open still leaving space for you to decorate you window cills as you would like. Roman blinds create a neat finish when both retracted and open.

Web blinds is a sister site of Hillary’s, unlike the main site they do indeed sell blinds online at Web Blinds. The great thing about Web Blinds is that because they are part of Hillary’s you can expect the great product quality and customer service that Hillary’s offer.

The Hillary’s website leaves a huge gap in the fact that it doesn’t not sell any products online, so you can’t buy them and fit them yourself. The Web-Blinds site fills this gap by offering just supply only blinds, and at much reduced rates too!

In case you do decide to measure your window yourself, buy from Web Blinds and install the blinds yourself they have a series of instructions to guide you through the process.

Blind Types

Web Blinds’s offer pretty much every blind type available in every colour available, just as Hillary’s do, one product they offer which Hillary’s don’t is the cheap ready made blinds which may be a valid option for you.

Ready Made Blinds

Ready made blinds offer an inferior look compared to made to measure blinds, but if you are on a tight budget they are a low cost, functional solution. Keep in mind that unless you are DIY minded you will not be able to modify the blinds and you will be stuck with a mis shaped product. Either if you are experienced in DIY one mistake could ruin the blinds and cost you a lot of money, so be wary.

Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are great for all different purposes, the aluminium collection are perfect for bathrooms and kitchens while the wooden collection offer a natural look which is perfect for bedrooms and living rooms.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are ideal for when you want to keep prying eyes out, the tilt also allows you to control light better roman or roller blinds.

VELUX Blinds

Web-Blinds state that their skylight range is specifically designed to fit VELUX windows, whether this means they are geniunly VELUX blinds or not is unclear, however I presume they aren’t. If you are unsure it is always best to contact the supplier.

Roman Blinds

Roman blinds are a great alternative to curtains, also they are available at reduced prices if you choose the unlined option, blackout lining is available at an extra cost too.

Woodweave Blinds

Woodweave blinds offer a unique look which blends in with most decor, web-blinds also claim there woodweave blinds are made from renewable materials which is a plus.

Pleated Blinds

Pleated blinds are most popular for use in conservatories, their versatility allows them to be tailored for awkward shaped windows. They are also exceptionally good at reducing solar glare and the damaging effects of the sun.

Service

Web-blinds only supply the blinds, if you are looking for a full service you will need to visit their sister site Hillary’s.

Other Products

Design Your Own Blind

If a standard blind is not stylish enough for you then Web-Blinds offer a digital printing service which allows you to choose an image from their gallary or upload your own and have it printed on a roller blind

Replacement Louvres

A great way to jazz up your room without purchasing new blinds is to only purchase new louvres, this allows you to have all the advantages of a new blind at a much lower price! Louvres start at around £3 each.
